 Trauma Medicine

Protective Equipment for Hospital Staff

 

  • All trauma patients should be assumed to be HIV, Hep B & Hep C positive, until proved otherwise
  • Staff dealing with acute trauma should be supplied with the appropriate protective equipment:-
    1. Gloves - single use only
    2. Eye protection (goggles, trauma mask, safety glasses etc.)
    3. Plastic aprons
    4. Lead aprons - clearly labelled e.g Team Leader (only if x-ray facilities are available)
  • Staff should ALWAYS be supplied with the appropriate safely equipment, and have appropriate training concerning how to deal with trauma patients
