Protective Equipment for Hospital Staff
- All trauma patients should be assumed to be HIV, Hep B & Hep C positive, until proved otherwise
- Staff dealing with acute trauma should be supplied with the appropriate protective equipment:-
- Gloves - single use only
- Eye protection (goggles, trauma mask, safety glasses etc.)
- Plastic aprons
- Lead aprons - clearly labelled e.g Team Leader (only if x-ray facilities are available)
- Staff should ALWAYS be supplied with the appropriate safely equipment, and have appropriate training concerning how to deal with trauma patients
